When dealing with a situation involving theft, the best course of action is to document the situation and notify the authorities. This approach emphasizes the importance of maintaining safety and following proper procedures. Confronting a thief aggressively can escalate the situation and put the security guard and others at risk. It is crucial to remain calm and collected, and to focus on observation and reporting rather than direct confrontation.

By documenting the incident, the security guard creates a record that can provide valuable details for law enforcement and assist in any subsequent investigation. Notifying authorities ensures that trained professionals can address the situation safely and appropriately, allowing the security guard to maintain a neutral stance and avoid any legal complications that could arise from trying to handle the situation independently.

Ignoring minor theft does not help in preventing future incidents, and asking employees to intervene could lead to confusion and potential harm. Properly addressing theft is essential for maintaining security and order, and the correct approach aligns with both legal and organizational protocols in security management.
